Food Log for Thursday, October 29, 2009

I was tired when I got home last night, so I didn't post this until this morning. Sorry.

Food Log:

3:30 am

4 oz pork chop
2 bags chai mate
1 Truvia
1 oz cream

3ish
Naples Café
shrimp w/cocktail sauce*
salad w/ranch
iced tea w/Splenda
asparagus
*I ordered their shrimp scampi, which I had there before. The first time I ate it there, it came in a dish of butter, as I would expect. This time, 6 small shrimp appeared on a bed of lettuce. They didn’t appear to be butter-soaked. And there was a side dish of cocktail sauce. I knew I shouldn’t eat the cocktail sauce, but I did. I’m sure it was sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup, because I haven’t had diarrhea in several days, but 20 minutes after eating that, the big D was back.

6:30 ish
7-11 café
3 battered, deep-fried pcs halibut*
tartar sauce
salad w/ranch
~1/2 c cottage cheese
* I know, I know. I shouldn't eat breaded things. But there insn’t much that’s legal on 7-11's menu. On the positive side of the ledger, I passed on the croutons, scone, french fries, and glutinous soup.

For years my blood sugar has been significantly higher in the morning than it was at bedtime. Now, with the addition of the nighttime snack, it is about the same this morning as it was last night. How simple! How nice.

In yesterday's session with Paul, we decided that I should make some sticky notes and place them in various places, including my car, computer monitor, bathroom mirror & refrigerator. I went shopping immediately after our session, and I decided that the best way to make sure I put some sticky notes in my car immediately was to do it before I got home. So I bought some cute sticky notes--they are shaped like stars and are bright orange and yellow--and some colored Sharpies, and made up notes for my dashboard before I ever left Walmart's parking lot. Here's what they said: "The food I make at home tastes better than fast food." "360 by Thursday." "I choose to be healthy." "Green light." When I got home before I even put the groceries away, I made more notes for the kitchen along the same lines. I've also made notes for the bathroom, computer and near my bed.

Yesterday, I listened to the second part of Jimmy Moore's interview with Diane Kress. She said that if you go more than 5 hours without eating, your liver starts pumping out glucose. Therefore, she said, you should eat immediately before going to bed and within an hour of getting up in the morning. Also, if you are awake in the night, you should eat something then. For as long as I've been testing my blood sugars, my blood sugar has been higher in the morning before breakfast that before any other meal of the day. So last night I ate an ounce of walnuts before bed, and I put an ounce of filberts by my bed. I ate them about 3:00 this morning when I woke up. This morning my blood sugar is 12 points lower than it was yesterday morning. Cool. I've ordered her book. Got to run now. I've got to have breakfast before 9. 8-)
